Spring is here and with it comes the energy of new beginnings. My life tends to run according to the seasons; in the spring I prepare the ground and plant the seeds of my intentions for the year, the summer is busy with the work of creating and manifesting my visions, autumn is the time of reaping and basking in the glory of accomplishments, but also for storing up the harvest for the long cold winter, the time of reflection and dreaming towards the next cycle of the seasons. My life is my garden and I tend it with a deep reverence for the cycles that exist in our natural world.

The ground is prepared, fertilized with the dreams and visions from the introspective winter and seeded with the lure of my own Soul’s longings. “I Am an Artist” my inner voice proclaims. Not the still small voice any longer. But the persistent nudge, like an itch you can’t quite reach, that simply cannot be ignored. I am an Artist and my Life is my Art. I have a vision of how my Life wishes to be lived; as a work of Art, beautifully, skillfully and intentionally created, playfully and joyfully experienced. My inner child wants to come out and play, and my work, my Art is a reflection of that desire.

I Love my work! I have the best job I can imagine; Costumer for the Theatre of Life. I get to make beautiful things for beautiful people to wear, or as a friend once put it, I adorn the bodies that house the spirit of God. I like to think of it that way, that there is a spiritual aspect to my work, and within the realm of my work I feel inspired to explore and reveal a deeper meaning and purpose to my creations. This is the calling of my Muse. Awaked from the cultural trance by the magic of Jean Houston’s Mystery School and nourished from an emerging potential, the Muse has taken hold of my imagination and called forth a vision. The seeds of this vision were gifted to me by Jean several years ago; to create garments that would reflect and embody the archetype or entelechy of the wearer. This vision has sometimes tickled my fancy and sometimes hounded my dreams, but above all it has become the foundation of my heart’s desire. Moving always in the direction of my heart’s desire, it is often one step forward and two steps back, a dance I know all too well. But dance I must, and with the Muse as my partner the next step is often into the unknown.

Blessing Robes is the fruit of last year’s harvest, the seeds of which I am now planting in this year’s garden. It is my belief that the experiences and intentions of my life deeply influence my work, and in the same way my work influences my life. This is the true nature of my work, creating my life as a work of Art and creating Art from that place. Giving myself over to the calling of my Soul is somewhat daunting and often awkward. New skills are required and old familiar ideals are useless. This is uncharted territory for me, but, in Jean’s words, “the lure of becoming” is too strong to be ignored.
